Founder Kim McRae with her mother Barbara McRae

About the Founder, Kim McRae and Frank Zamor

Kim McRae has a ten year history as a family caregiver and a consumer of aging services. Throughout a five year period, Kim and her husband, Frank, cared for and lost, his mother and father, and her father, a retired physician. Kim was 35 when her father died in 2001. She “inherited” her then 62 year old mother, Barbara, who has Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy Body Dementia. Kim’s mom lived with them for four years, and is currently under hospice care in an assisted living home in Atlanta.

Experiencing the long-term care “system” first hand, and wanting something better for her mother – and all people living with dementia – Kim discovered culture change and person-centered care. She has been studying dementia care and long-term care for eight years. Kim has become a “Family Caregiver Turned Advocate.”

Prior to becoming a family caregiver for her Mom, Kim was an integrated marketing professional for over fourteen years. Have a Good Life combines her professional experience with her educational experiences in aging, and her personal insight as the “Voice of the Family Caregiver.” Kim is the co-founder of the Culture Change Network of Georgia (www.CultureChangeGA.org). She is on the Marketing and Communications Committee and the Coalitions Committee of the Pioneer Network, the national clearinghouse of the culture change movement.

Kim and Richard Taylor met several years ago at a Pioneer Network conference. They have become very close friends. Working with Kim’s husband Frank, who produced the new DVD, they are dedicated and determined to spread the word about Humanizing Dementia Care! Stay tuned for more DVDs to be released in Richard’s “Be with me TODAY” series.
